WHOIS - WHOIS is a TCP-based query/response protocol which is widely used for querying a database in order to determine the owner of a domain name, an IP address, or an autonomous system number on the Internet. WHOIS lookups were traditionally made using a command line interface, but a number of simplified web-based tools now exist for looking up domain ownership details from different databases (see #Web-based WHOIS Tools for a partial list).

Domain privacy - Domain privacy is offered by several registrars such as Go Daddy, Network Solutions, eNom and so forth. A user buys privacy from the company, who in turn replaces the user's info in the whois with the info of a proxy service such as Domains by Proxy or Whois Privacy Protection Service.

Domain Registry Support - Domain Registry Support is the name of a phishing organization based in New York. They appear to scan the whois database for internet domain contact information, and telephone the contact seeking personal information "in order to FAX expiration information about your domain".
